Northern New England
Drs. Beebe and Doss have been fortunate to help many people in Northern New England with their dental emergencies. In many cases, we have been able to save our patients from losing teeth. In other cases, we have been able to help people who have lost teeth – both an individual tooth and many teeth – by replacing them with permanent dental implants. If you have lost one or multiple teeth and are having a dental emergency, please call us today.
If you have lost a tooth, please try to follow these recommendations:
- Carefully pick up your tooth by the top of the tooth rather than by the root. Try to avoid touching the root if at all possible.
- Clean your tooth by gently rinsing it off. Be careful to avoid dropping your tooth down the drain.
- Carefully place your tooth back in the socket and bite down on it very gently. Alternatively, put your tooth in a cup of milk.
- Call us immediately to schedule an emergency dental appointment. We will try to save your tooth if at all possible by re-implanting it back in the socket. Note that it is important that you call us and come in to our office as soon as possible. The sooner you come in, the more likely we will be able to save your tooth. If we can’t save it, we will discuss the alternatives including a permanent dental implant.
- If you are unable to reach us, we recommend that you go to the hospital emergency room.
There are several possible causes for a dental emergency, from a severe infection or abscess to a traumatic event that causes you to lose a tooth. If the problem is the result of decay or an infection, the sooner you come in for a dental appointment, the better. In some cases, you may need to see an endodontist to perform a root canal. The key is – don’t wait.
